Im glad you asked... Follow the processes taken to bring the collective into your own home. Using a combination of digital art, prop and costume creation, and game development. The current state of the game is a proof of concept demo, meaning more content will be added in the future.
In order to achieve the feel of community and shared nightmares, I had the public design their own entities to be included in my game. I created a questionnaire with several sections, which can be seen above. I had around 10 responses, but I only used three in this version of the game. I used these prompts to create the entities below.
This entity was modeled out of the description "A simple little Jewelery box that for some strange reason you cant stop listening to its innocent tune". It was marked as hazardous, so i came up with this concept for it. The box itself was made from clay and a felt lining on the inside.
Instead of a description for this one, i was given a simple sketch of a telephone with arms and legs, so i came up with a concept to go along with it. I decided that i would force you to pick up the phone, and tell you secrets.
For this one, I was given "Big eyes, large frame". With such a broad scope I was thrilled to design this guy. I created a shadowy creature that looms in the corner of rooms, always watching with its big, hellish eyes. I didnt get around to implementing this one in the game, as i would want him to watch the player as they explore and my abilities are not there yet, but in the future i plan to add h
Finally, heres one i came up with personally. I wanted to incorporate some of my textiles skills so decided on a puppet. In the game, he talks in riddles and it is unclear yet whether he is trying to help you, or harm you.
I had to teach myself everything, as I had never created a game before this, i learnt how to create a 3D environment, lighting, scripts, audio sources and some 3D modeling in the Phone and Music box models. Also with the help of AI for coding, which I adapted to suit my game, I was able to implement many interesting functions, such as opening doors, cutscenes and audio logs.
This video displays my use of green screens to insert particular objects into the game world to allow for a more cohesive flow between elements. I really enjoyed working with them, and now that i own one i will deffinatly be using it more often!
My solution to give the phone hands without anything else being shown. I cut two arm-sized holes in a piece of cardboard and covered them with black fabric with smaller slits in them. I think this worked really nicely to hide the rest of my arms and make it look like the hands were coming out of the phone.
Some raw footage of me interacting with the music box. I had to retake this several times to correct the timing and framing as i couldn't see the camera while it was strapped to my chest.
Raw footage of my puppet. It was actually just a mouth and nose that was hidden by the darkness in the final version. I have plans to further build on him though so that in a later version of my game we can get a better look at him.
Unused footage of what could be done with the tape found inside the music box. I have plans to use this further down the line.
All footage was then edited by me and inserted into the final game as cutscenes. You can view them by playing the game from the download link below.
